Victor Records Musical Masterpiece Series

Post by Anne1963 » Sun Sep 01, 2013 3:10 am

I was sorting through my LPs tonight and came across this really special looking 3 album set of the Rachmaninoff Concerto No. 1, in F Sharp Minor performed by Rachmaninoff and the Philadelphia Orchestra under Eugene Ormandy.

Apparently the recording was purchased for a library. The set has what appears to be the original paper Rachmaninoff bio affixed inside the front cover—4 pages including the front, Marked as M-865 (18374-18376) DM-865 (18377-18379). The first album sleeve has 45603 stamped on it. The actual discs appear to be in perfect condition. The album cover itself has some wear and age (two areas of the background artwork have peeled).

I have no idea of how or where to begin finding appraisals for this collection. Anyone...?

This is a 78-rpm album set. The recording was also issued on LP (RCA Victor Red Seal LCT 1118) in the early 1950s, and unfortunately the 78s are not deemed to have any collector value.
