ECM LABELOGRAPHY

Post by weletthegoldfishgo » Tue Jan 19, 2010 7:35 pm

Dark green label (bold) with silver logo and lettering with Distributed by Polydor Incorporated, New York, N.Y. across bottom*.

As issued on ECM 1004 in 1970.

*The highlight ''moon'' along the bottom edge of the featured label is caused by scanner light moving across the raised edge of the label.

White label with black logo (bold) and lettering with Manufactured and Marketed by Polydor Incorporated and the street address across bottom. The black smudge on this label is where the words PROMOTION COPY on one line and just below it NOT FOR SALE should be printed. I assume someone managed to smudge the words with black pen or whatever to cover the promo status?

The 'Record Label' Guide for Domestic LP's by Joe Lindsay shows a clean copy of this label. I do not have a smudge-free label at this time. :(

As issued on ECM-1-1081* in 1976.

*The cover only shows the catalogue number ECM 1081, but the label shows the inclusion of the extra 1 in between ECM and the number. I also have a copy of ECM-1-1080, but it has the same numbering on the jacket as it does on the label. I dunno if 1081 was released before 1080 and it was during this time that the company changed its number system. The info around the bottom edge of label on 1080 is the same as ECM 1004 whereas the info around the bottom edge of label on 1081 is as shown in this DJ WLP.
