Very informative and enjoyable

Quie a lot of UK labels started off with GOLD print to then turn to silver.................ALL the gold print I have ever seen were in the first half dozen or so releases .and I had always assumed that these were for UK release rather than export.............,,,but like most othe labels hey found GOLD and impratible colour

PYE issued CHESS wrere GOLD print first then silver.and so were lots of early UK DECCCA ( DECCA BRUNSWICK LONDON ) and EMI releases ( COLUMBIA HMV and PARLOHONE ) .and PYE INTERNATIONAL ( started more or less the same time as TOP RANK )

all of these started off gold

In addition to the JAR series TOP RANK also had a " KING SIZED " series .

These featured one " longer " track on each side.....usually Jazz or similar..........and they came in a PAPER picture sleeve

That one looks more like a conventional EP ...but is the next release after the one I psted

KS45............my records are in store at the moment and I can only post what I put onto a memory stick before they went away I have a fairly l;arge number of Top rank singles......and a dozen or so on my memory stick

You have clearly studied them.do you have them all ?

One of the odities is that the VENTURES WALK DON'T RUN has a PRE EMI catalogue number but ALWAYS comes with the EMI words in the TOP LFET QUARTER

I've just had a look at Paul Pelletier's detailed Top Rank discography and I think it sheds some light on why The Ventures "Walk Don't Run" appears with the EMI details on the label.

The record was originally released in July 1960 just before Top Rank closed and became part of the EMI group. The single was then re-issued with the same catalogue no. (JAR 417) in September 1960 only now including the EMI details on the label. So presumably the original issue from July 1960 would not include the EMI details.

There were quite a few other singles that came out before the label closed and then were re-issued once EMI had taken over the label. Paul Pelletier lists the following :

JAR 290 Josh MaCrae - Talking Army Blues Jan 60 - re-issued Oct 60
JAR 362 Club Quintet - Caravelle Apr 60 - re-issued Sep 60
JAR 363 Janine De Waleyne - Faces In The Dark May 60 - re-issued on Oriole CB 1576
JAR 377 Beau Marks - Clap Your Hands May 60 - re-issued Oct 60
JAR 395 Fendermen - Mule Skinner Blues Jun 60 - re-issued Sep 60
JAR 402 Dante & The Evergreens - Alley-oop Jul 60 - re-issued Sep 60
JAR 407 Freddy Cannon - Happy Shades Of Blue Aug 60 - re-issued Sep 60
JAR 408 Danny Rivers - I Got Jul 60 - re-issued Dec 60
JAR 409 Brooks Brothers - Please Help Me, I'm Falling Jul 60 - re-issued Sep 60
JAR 413 Preston Epps - Bong Bongo Bongo Jul 60 - re-issued Oct 60
JAR 415 Bert Weedon - Apache Jul 60 - re-issued Sep 60
JAR 419 Jack Scott - Cool Water Aug 60 - re-issued Sep 60
JAR 422 Fireballs - Vaquero not issued - issued as JAR 507 Sep 60
JAR 424 Safaris - Image Of A Girl Aug 60 - re-issued Sep 60
JAR 426 John Leyton - Tell Laura I Love Her Originally scheduled for Sep/Oct 60 as JAR 438 - re-issued in Sep 60 as JAR 426
JAR 427 Andy Stewart - Donald, Where's Your Troosers Aug 60 - re-issued Sep 60
