45's (US artists) from 50's released in Japan

How to tell if your record is an original, reissued or import copy as well as info about misprinted record labels. Also includes info about colored vinyl and picture discs.

45's (US artists) from 50's released in Japan

Post by leeleeper » Wed Jul 02, 2014 11:36 pm

Came across several 45's issued mid 50's and released in Japan. Most are in special sleeves
(label names familiar - higher quality paper with full back & artwork on back). Most 45's have Japanese printing below artist name. Were these issued to US military personnel or to the Japanese consumers?

Probably the latter - in a bulk lot I acquired recently I found the lyric sheet from Little Richard's "Lucille" on the Japanese King label (no record, darn it) and the lyrics were both in Japanese and (hilariously translated) English. I assume it was from the 1950s.
"That big ol' hole, little bitty record...nobody's gonna buy that!" - Carl Perkins, 1956
