Worst "Edited Version" Ever

Post by wand143 » Thu Oct 07, 2010 3:50 pm

My nominees: "Gospel Zone" - Shadows Of Knight - the 3:05 version was reduced on promos to 2:30, but if you know the song, they coupled lyrics from part of one verse to parts of another and words don't rhyme most of the time!
"Baby Please Don't Go" - Amboy Dukes - not sure if this made it to stock copies (I only ever had a promo) but again, lyrics were edited together with lyrics that make no sense whatsoever. Then again, they had to take a 4-minute+ song and cram it into 3 minutes or so.

Let us not forget "House Of The Rising Sun" by The Animals. And the MGM Debut LP even had that edit. We didn't get the full version until "The Best Of The Animals" was issued here.

The Canadian copy has the long version on Capitol 72121 4:28.

Let's go crazy-Prince.

The edit is so sloppy that at the begining of the song, where he is doing the whole "Dearly beloved" part, he is actually talking over himself.
Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

I'd say Tony Bennett's 3:22 version of "MacArthur Park" is abysmal.

'Best Of' was the first ANIMALS LP the long version appeared on in the US.It's actual debut was an MGM Various Artists LP,called something like 'English A-Go-Go'.It's got the Animals,Herman's Hermits and a few other no-name British groups, produced by Mickie Most...

Thanks for the clarification. You're right. A compilation LP I never owned. And it had the original US issue of the full version of this classic. And easier to find in true mono as well.

You know, I've seen that around and I've totally ignored it...now I have a reason to pick up a copy!
Actually, until I heard the "long version" I would've never KNOWN that the "standard issue" was the edited version. That's why I'd have to waffle on agreeing that it's a sloppy edit (and, OK, raise your hand if you always thought the song was in 3/4 time..c'mon, admit it...).
The short version of "Layla" is pretty choppy, too, when you think about it.

The single edit of The Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again" is hack job supreme.

I was going to use this one, but yes, you're absolutely correct.
