doo wop revival reports the death of billy bland -- Billy Bland died March 22 in New York just before his 85th birthday. Billy was the youngest of 19 children. He started out singing with the Bees in New York with their most notable recording being "Toy Bell" in 1954, AKA "My Ding-A-Ling" which later became a smash hit for Chuck Berry. In 1960, Billy worked with Titus Turner on the tune, "Let The Little Girl Dance." His demo was released instead and became his only hit. He retired from the music business to open a soul food restaurant in Harlem.
