De-warping a Shellac 78?

Post by geo58000 » Fri Aug 31, 2012 11:45 pm

I didn't see a previous thread for this, so I was wondering...has anyone here "de-warped"
a shellac 78 using 2 pieces of glass? I have a somewhat rare 78 I'd like to put up for sale soon, but it has a fairly pronounced dish warp. I've had some pretty bad luck with 78's, so any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks..

I'm gonna guess that would crack the record, not flatten it.

It got there by time and weight, thats the only way out of it.
Put it in a book and put some weights on it ( other books etc.?)
this warm weather helps
Then just wait.
Hurry it and you're done

Shellac isn't vinyl, it's brittle - I think weight cracks it.

I wasn't thinking of your entire family, just a cousin or two would be fine.

I agree with hrtshpdbox. Any weight is more likely to crack it.

Does it play OK? If so, I'd say leave well enough alone.

The only other thing I could suggest would be contacting the Smithsonian's music department, and see what they would recommend.
Anyone who thinks he has a foolproof plan hasn't counted on the ingenuity of fools.
