Is this record repairable?

Post by dcrews » Fri Mar 19, 2010 9:16 pm

Hi:

I'm wondering if it is even possible to repair this record. Overall the record is flat, but as you can see from the pictures it is bent pretty severely on one edge. I'm not sure what happened to it - it was like that when I got it.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

Looks like it was left in the sun. My experience with warps is that slight dish warps will often fix themselves with proper storage, something like this....even if you did get it straightened out it would probably be near un-playable and if it were would be heavily distorted.

Agree with scotapell. I've had some success flattening warped records but heat damage like this is beyond help. Still, there's no harm in trying. There's obviously nothing to lose.

Chicago V is a fairly common LP ... it shouldn't be difficult to find an inexpensive, playable replacement copy.

Thanks guys. I figured it would probably be a longshot to fix. I found another copy of it while I was out today - listening to it right now.
