Rare Queen Find??

Post by ctguy » Sun Apr 10, 2011 11:18 pm

Hi,
I'm DJ and new to the RCG although I've been collecting records for a few years I'm the kind of collector who looks at a record and says yea that's kind cool and takes the record home and into a box it goes. I’m partial to Queen ELO and Anything 12” DJ promo mixes and the like.

I hope you folks can help me identify if I have found a rare item or not -Lately I've been looking through some of my boxes and I came across "Queen A Message from the Palace Baktabak BK 6014 (Special edition coloured vinyl)" from all my research and looking around Google, RCG Yahoo Dogpile record image sites ..I find this was pressed on only three colors Red Yellow and Blue vinyl.

Mine seems to be pressed on blue flexi or Baby Blue vinyl. I've attached some pics that show what it should look like based on recorded pressings and then on what I have (I hope they come out Ok) although from the pics you can't see what's printed in the dead wax I’ve included it below, I don’t know what is actually recorded I have not listened to the disc so it can stay un-played.

Queen A Message from the Palace Baktabak BK 6014 (Special edition coloured vinyl)

Dead wax on Side 1
Orlake
BAK 2014 A1 BAK 2. 6014 A The 2014 and the "2." have been scratched out.

Dead wax on Side 2:
Orlake
BAK 2014 B1 BAK 6014 B1 - The 2014 is scratched out.

Any thoughts?
Thanks DJ.

A quick search on the internet shows that it was pressed in at least 5 colors. (clear, white, blue, red, yellow)
Not too valuable. Copies can be had for $10 to $20. They seemed to be higher in 2009 with copies hitting $30 - $40.
Baktabak pressed all kind of novelty and interview albums back in the day. Not too collectible as it is not an official band release.
I see them as picture discs, cool to have if you are totally into said band, but otherwise not so much.
Always looking for the odd and obscure on vinyl.

I'll echo Rafter's sentiments-
as cool-lookin' as alot of those interview pic discs are, few are worth heavy dinero...

I think that is kind of cool. Such items can really help round out a collection though, if you are a fanatic for any given group. Collecting records isn't about money to me, so take that into account. Looks cool!
MCS 6600+Stanton 600, Yamaha Natural Sound K30, Technics SL-P117 , KLH 23s, Hitachi SR-604. Good Times!

You did a bang-up job of getting your pics posted; most new people take a while before they've figured it out.
