Atlantic late 1960's/early 1970's mono discography

Post by Ernie11 » Sun Feb 12, 2006 3:28 pm

Atlantic Records was unusual in that they issued U.S. promo mono LP's for up to 5 years after mono ended commercially in 1968. As a result, there are a wide variety of artists who recorded for Atlantic for which you can find one of these scarce promo mono's. These promo mono's were almost always put into stereo covers, with a round red or gold "d/j monaural" sticker on the front cover.

Mono's can generally be identified by: the lack of the word "Stereo" on the label; the record number prefix does NOT begin with "SD"; the biggest giveaway is the aforementioned round red or gold "d/j monaural" sticker for promo's, or the word "Mono" on the lower front cover for commercial copies.

This discography is as much as I know right now for Atlantic mono LP's, but I'm sure there are many others issued. I keep finding new ones all the time. Any additions or corrections, let me know.

Is that Yessongs a 3-LP set?

oops, annaloog! I forgot the most obvious label difference - thanks for the correction.

As for the Yessongs, I don't know if it's a 3-LP set or not.

Archie Bell and the Drells. I was a kid when "I Can't Stop Dancing" was just about my favorite song back in '68.
