RCA late 60's mono discography

Post by Ernie11 » Sun Dec 04, 2005 12:31 pm

Below is what I can confirm so far for a late 60's RCA mono discography. This entails generally RCA mono LP's from 1967 onward. All are stock copies, as I have never come across white label promo versions of any of these LP's. I put the miscellaneous label types and numbers (Camden, etc.) at the bottom. Please forgive me (and correct me) for any spelling errors, this is obviously a long list from a major label. I post a scan of a rare Chet Atkins example, but the quality is bad, my scanner (or me) just can't pick up the contrast between the black label and gray lettering on the RCA labels of that era.

Thanks,
Ernie

Ernie ~ Thanks, great info! I have just one suggestion to offer. Since it's practically impossible to format lists in these forums, could you add a separator -- a hyphen or colon perhaps -- between the artist and title to more easily distinguish them? Thanks!

BTW, is the PRM-271 on a black or a blue label?

ERNIE

Greatr! Tyhanks again and Thanks!@ in advance for the posts I know you will make in the future. Two things:

As per Annaloog's suggestion for better readability, howzabout artist in upper/lower case followed the title in caps, as per:

LPM-4017 Chet Atkins HOMETOWN GUITAR

Also, I think we should assume that almost all of the missing numbers were probably also released in mono and stereo.

NEAL

PS: I remember when mono copies of AFTER BATHING AT BAXTER'S were readily available -for several years!- for ninety-nine cents. . .

I grew up in the '60s in northeastern Pennsylvania, a coal-mining region with little money that was a dumping ground for cut-outs. $.99 to $1.99 was the norm, depending on the particulars of the sale. Blow-outs were often three-for-a-dollar. In one such purchase, from the basement of McCrory's, just off of Pulic Square in Wilkes-Barre, I bought KINKS KONTROVERSEY, the Beau Brummels' TRIANGE, and Elvis' CALIFORNIA HOLIDAY (the UK version of SPINOUT and the first Elvis import I ever owned). 33 1/3 cents per record! All mono, all sealed, and the first two with the brass rivet cut-out demarcation used by Warner/Reprise at the time.

NEAL

PS: If you are feeling bad about having to have paid too much for your BAXTER'S, I will happily give you twice that amount for it now. . .

Best!

Neal,

I will post future lists per your format. I wasn't aware that formatting wouldn't work, so I had put tabs between the artist name and LP title on that RCA list, tabs which promptly disappeared when the post went through!

As per assuming missing numbers exist in mono and stereo, I would assume that stereos exist, but as for mono's, I'm never certain.

Neal ~ Thanks for the kind offer. However, considering that the mono and stereo mixes of ABAB are remarkably different, I'll hold onto both of them.

Okay! Okay!! You drive a hard bargain but I'll go all the way to a buck-nine-ninety-nine for the mono BAXTER'S. But not a smidgen more!!! (The album remains vastly underrated by those-who-should-know-better, by the by.)

PS: BALLAD OF YOU AND ME AND POONEIL was the ambience to my realization that I had been "psychedelisized" for the first time. Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. . . Personal faverave ever since!
